“We act, or fail to act, not because of ‘will,’ as is so commonly believed, but because of imagination.” -Maxwell Maltz

Happy Monday everyone! Let’s start this week off right and set ourselves up for a great month of April!

This Past Week

This past week has been pretty crazy with our daughter Ava picking up a virus from daycare and then having that develop into pinkeye in both eyes. So, my time to work on some things was limited as a lot of attention went to her being sick! Definitely not complaining though, as it gave me more time with her 😊

Training

Within the training space, it was basically get whatever I can done as I am still working back from the setbacks I have previously had. Also, it was a deload week for me. A deload is a planned week or period of time where training is decreased in volume or intensity to let the body recover and adapt. If you train hard and do not deload, you could suffer the consequences of overtraining.

So, with the combination of still coming back from the muscle strain and swelling in my knee and having a deload, the volume was cut way down along with the intensity (weight). I basically did anything that wasn’t even close to causing any pain or stress on the joints while doing very little reps to reduce any soreness that may creep in.

So, regardless of what’s going on, you can always adjust to make sure the program is optimal for you!

Mindset

In this section this week, I want to talk about self talk. I have previously mentioned self image and how our lives or outcomes are determined by self image. Well, how can we help to form a new self image? One aspect that goes into this is our self talk.

As far as self talk goes, I am not just talking about false positivity that doesn’t really feel genuine in a time of negative emotion or distress, I am talking more about the fact that the negative self talk is never the answer.

I was listening to an episode of the Joe Rogan Podcast with Dr. Peter Attia. Now, Attia is being interviewed on this podcast more for the book he wrote about longevity and lifespan. However, in the beginning stages of the podcast, they talk about how they each would talk to themselves in life. Now, I must say it is comforting to hear that other people say the same type of language to beat themselves up with, however, I think it is important to hear that Attia stopped this self-berating with a pretty simple concept that he goes over in the episode.

The concept is that whenever he finds himself in a situation in which is old habit would be to beat himself up, he was to take out his phone and record a voice memo talking to himself like he was coaching or talking to a friend and being real about the situation. This detaches all of the negative emotion and self talk and automatically becomes more factual based and encouraging.

So… if you are a consistent negative self talker (yes, I am quite guilty of it as well) try this technique out for awhile and see what happens. The results may surprise you!

Pop Culture

It was tough to watch the Women’s National Championship for basketball last night as LSU defeated Iowa. LSU had a shooting performance that was very uncommon both to them as a team and to basic statistics of basketball. Their shooting percentage was unreal, and led to a large margin of victory.

Watching Iowa was still fun though, as they cut the 21 point lead down to like 7 or 8 at one point during the game. Obviously I have to mention Caitlin Clark and how nuts she is on the floor as well. She broke the March Madness tournament points record and 3 point makes record in a final.

It will be awesome to watch the Men’s game tonight to see who is crowned champion there as well!

Here and Now

A lot of my present moment writing involves feeling good in the moment to deliver results that match that feeling.

In this section today, I want to talk about action. So, when you get the chance, give yourself the space and time to feel good about yourself and the future. Whatever comes up in the mind to do in that moment, take that action!

Acting from your intuition when feeling good will yield the results you are trying to find in one way or another. Trust that it is coming!

Future

This is my favorite time of year when it comes to big sporting events… why? Because we are going from March Madness and National Championships right into The Masters. These are 2 of the most entertaining sporting events of the year, and they are back to back. I love it!!

If golf isn’t your thing, I am also looking forward to Easter weekend coming up! It is a great time for family to come together and enjoy company and good food. We also have a forecast as of this morning that is 70 and sunny ☀️ . It should be a great weekend!

Have yourself a great week, and as always, thank you for taking your time to read this! I hope that you got something out of it!

If you know someone that would like these topics, please share it with them!

All Love,
